Gucci and A$AP Rocky go way back. Once a muse of Alessandro Michele, the Harlem rapper featured in an ad campaign alongside fellow music heavyweights Tyler, The Creator and Iggy Pop, as well as a selection of fun-loving feathered parrots, two years ago. He’s also the recent face of the brand’s ‘Guilty’ fragrance.
Since the birth of his child with Rihanna, who celebrated their first birthday last week, A$AP’s entered his yuppy era, swapping bandanas for ties and durags for baseball caps; Gucci has become a constant source for the New Yorker and his preppy antics. So, it was only right that the A$AP Mob member climbed aboard the fashion house’s luxury cruise and made a splash with an intimate set of Pretty Flacko classics.
If, like us, you weren’t lucky enough to receive an invite, you may have seen videos online of A$AP performing “L$D” and “Praise the Lord (Da Shine)”. Dressed in a white suit shirt, striped tie, embroidered jeans and a statement Gucci skirt, the 34-year-old powered through his intimate set and put fashion’s elite folk through their paces.
Staging at the Gyeongbokgung Palace, one of South Korea’s most iconic landmarks, the cruise show celebrated 25 years of the Italian house’s original Seoul store. It was the third runway since Alessandro left Gucci and the first since they appointed Sabato De Sarno as the new creative director, who starts in 2024. The runway evoked South Korea’s ordinary folk, looking to action sport and rave culture for key inspiration. Matrix-like puffer coats, baggy ripped jeans and monogram skateboard decks are just a few statement pieces that caught our eye at the show.
