The House of Gucci stands as an iconic and influential fashion brand that has become an international symbol of luxury and style. The brand’s innate ability to seamlessly fuse tradition and modernity has solidified its cult status, with a legion of devoted fans in tow.
For its cruise 2024 collection, the maison’s design team looked to the sprightly streets of Seoul for inspiration. The show was fittingly held at the historied Gyeongbokgung Palace, which saw a palatial 14th century stone courtyard lined with sparkling lights that provided a sense of drama and grandeur. The house captured the look and feel of the city through plenty of youthful references witnessed throughout the collection, in a blend of bourgeois streetwear and sportswear.
Acclaimed model Sora Choi opened the show, strutting down the runway in a padded coat and wide-legged denim, clutching a croc-embossed iteration of the new Gucci horsebit chain bag. Cropped jackets paired with bouclé bike shorts followed suit, while pastel chiffon dresses breezed down the runway layered under Scuba vests. There were statement embellishments present, from the tweed midi skirts lined with diamanté crystals to sparkling sequinned tops. There were also flashes of tailoring—undoubtedly a trademark of the house by now—such as the closing look that saw a boxy black suit with cropped bottoms that ended at the knee.
As for accessories, the Horsebit 1955 shoulder bag returns, albeit in new colourways. The sleek horsebit chain bag introduced earlier is offered in an array of finishes, such as a silky satin or bejewelled option. Shades were oversized and retro in silhouette, their lenses tinted in the amber yellow now synonymous with the brand. With this being the final show handled by the design team prior to creative director Sabato De Sarno taking over, it was certainly a collection that wiped the slate clean of any Alessandro tropes, ready to usher in a new era.
